Did you know that a large oak tree can drop thousands of acorns in one year? Or that trees can communicate and defend themselves against attacking insects? Fall is an excellent time to learn to identify native trees by their leaves, fruits, branches, and bark patterns. Enjoy a sunset walk and meet the trees. Our walk will take place at Shaw Park and the Presumpscot River Trail. Amy Melissa Witt is a Naturalist, Horticulturist, Educator, and Director of Earth Walkers (www.earthwalkers.me). She offers a variety of nature-based programs, garden consultations, and leads people on journeys to invigorate their hearts and fully experience nature in more spiritual ways.

Join Master Gardener, Joel Leak, for a presentation on attracting pollinators to your garden with native plants from Maine. Pollinators are necessary to produce 35% of the world?s food and their numbers are on the decline. Native plants are easy to grow, ornamental, and usually better at attracting pollinators than non-native species. Learn how to make your yard more pollinator friendly. Joel Leak has been a Master Gardener since 2001 and has been gardening for over 50 years. He teaches Adult Education classes in vegetable gardening, fruit trees, herbs, and growing berries. He maintains a vegetable garden, orchard, and grows berries at his home in Falmouth.

Create a Balsam Fir Wreath. Beginners become instant wreath makers; no experience is necessary. You will take home a completed project, a fragrant and full 22" fresh Balsam Fir Wreath decorated with a beautiful red bow. Your wreath remains fresh throughout the holidays and beyond. All materials can be recycled. Materials provided: Fresh Balsam Fir locally and sustainably harvested, wreath ring, and red ribbon. Additional supplies are available for a take-home project. Please bring gloves and small hand pruners. $16 material fee paid to instructor on night of class (no checks). Tom and Lorraine Lindstedt are experienced wreath makers, crafters, and educators and operate Woodlot Management & Products; a local family-owned and operated tree farm.
