This is a Maine State Certified course and includes the 130 hours required by the State of Maine. The Certified Nursing Assistant (CAN) program is a 130-hour program, consisting of a minimum of 70 hours of classroom instruction, 20 hours of lab time, and 40 hours of clinical work. Students who complete the course will be eligible to sit for the Maine CNA competency test. Training includes CPR certification.

Instruction is based on State Laws, Industry Regulations and Equipment Maintenance required for licensing. State of Maine standards for classroom and driving instruction are adhered to during the course. Students spend a good part of their instructional time operating trucks through a combination of on the range practice and road time.

This 50-hour course prepares participants to work in home health care or residential settings. Personal care, communication skills, observing, reporting, and documentation are taught. How to provide care safely and deal with emergencies, consumer rights, aging, and illness are additional topics covered in class.
